Foods are important sources of various compounds including carbohydrates, protiens, lipids, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and so on. Many of the fruits and vegetables are emerging as pharmacologically important agents against various diseases, often reffered to as functional foods. In addition, the bioactive compounds with pharmaceuticals benefits are isolated from these foods (nutraceuticals).
